About Us

Varnum Vintners is owned and operated by Taralyn and Cyler Varnum. Our passion is to make delicious, small production wines that are affordable and approachable. We make the wines we love and experiment with new grapes and styles that peak our interest. Our hope is to inspire the next generation of wine drinkers with our "Made to Drink, Don't Over Think" attitude. Wine as an approachable beverage can bring people together and lift us up, no need for pretention and judgement. As the first winery in the world to put wine in a beer bottle, and the first in Oregon to make nonalcoholic wines, we hope you find something you love and feel comfortable enjoying on a Tuesday.  Cheers - The Varnum's

Our Estate Vineyard

After years of searching, we found the perfect property for us in the Eola Amity Hills. The combination of elevation, aspect, soil, and original 1978 plantings had us at first sight.  This historic vineyard had been out of cultivation for 10 years and as we bring it back to life we renamed it to the Catalyst Vineyard. Catalyst sits at 720-780ft in elevation, East facing, and on ancient volcanic clay. The soils are as shallow as 2.5ft deep in some places, where the ground goes to fairly solid sand stone or ancient marine sediment. As we bring our estate vineyard back to life, we look forward to sharing our viticultural journey and small estate wines with you.

Source Vineyards

Since we began making wine in 2014, we have sought out old vines and passionate farmers. Over the last several years we have gained deeper understandings for these sites and continue to improve our wines with limited intervention methods that compliment the flavors produced by the grapes we source from.
